Start with the pieces that need more attention

A sideboard with a loose leg needs different preparation from a flat-pack bookcase. Tell us about fragile joints, glass shelves, marble tops, removable parts and any existing damage. Close photos of the furniture are useful; include the doorway and stairs it must pass through as well.

We can include full-house packing or concentrate on the rooms and belongings you want help with. If you pack the rest yourself, agree on that division before move day so the crew arrives with the appropriate materials and time.

Dining-room contents

China, glassware and serving pieces need cushioning inside the carton as well as a strong box. Set aside items with chips or loose handles for a separate discussion. Keep each carton manageable rather than filling one large box with everything from a cabinet.

Furniture and framed pieces

Point out mirrors, pictures, table leaves and detachable shelves when requesting your estimate. We will review protection and handling. Unusually delicate, valuable or oversized items may need a specific packing approach agreed in advance.

The rest of the home

Books, clothes and kitchen utensils still add up to a substantial load. Include closets, the basement and items stored outside the main rooms. A complete inventory helps avoid a truck or packing plan based on only the furniture visible in photographs.

Adding an Essex shop pickup to your move?

Essex’s Main Street area includes antique and specialty shops. If you are buying a piece for the new home, ask us about collecting it as an additional stop. For a shop pickup, include the item's weight, packing status and loading location as well as the purchase details.

Before you commit

Share dimensions, photographs, the seller’s address and the floor where the item is located. We can review the pickup alongside the household inventory.

Before pickup

Confirm who releases the item, when the shop is available and whether any preparation is required. Include the extra stop in the agreed scope and estimate.

At the destination

Measure the intended room and the route into it. Tell us about turns, stairs or a tight entrance before the item reaches your new address.

From room to truck

Keep the house protected as furniture comes through

Padded furniture and a protected doorway ready for moving

In an older home, the limiting point may be a turn beyond the front door rather than the door itself. Large pieces should be reviewed along the whole carrying route. Furniture that was assembled upstairs may need disassembly to leave the room.

Show us original trim, recently finished floors and any entrance you do not want used. We can discuss suitable floor and doorway protection with the move. Clear loose rugs, shoes and smaller belongings from the carrying path, and arrange a separate space for pets.

Outside, explain where the truck may stand and how far that position is from the entrance. A driveway shown in a listing photograph may not reveal a narrow opening, soft edge or shared access.

One move, with the services you actually need

Local or interstate

Esquire handles local relocations and moves to another state. For either, provide both addresses and the intended delivery date. Interstate estimates also need a clear shipment list and agreed delivery arrangements.

Storage between addresses

If the destination is not ready, discuss storage when you arrange pickup. Separate belongings you need during the gap, and ask how storage, handling and later delivery will appear in the estimate.

A written moving estimate

The estimate depends on how much is moving, crew time, travel, stairs, carrying distance and the packing you choose. Tell us about extra stops and difficult pieces before comparing quotes; a lower figure may describe less work.

Your Essex moving questions

Can you collect an antique purchase as well as move my home?

Ask us to include the shop pickup when we quote the move. We need the item details, pickup address, seller’s availability and loading conditions. The additional stop and any special packing must be agreed in advance.

Do I need to empty cabinets and drawers?

Empty loose and fragile contents from cabinets. Ask about drawers before leaving anything inside, because the furniture’s construction, weight and carrying route matter. Pack liquids and breakables separately rather than relying on a closed drawer to protect them.

Can you pack only my china and glassware?

Yes. Identify the cabinets or individual items you want packed and tell us what you will pack yourself. We will discuss the materials, packing time and agreed services in your estimate.

What should I keep with me during the move?

Keep medicines, keys, identification, essential documents, personal valuables and daily necessities with you. If the shipment will go into storage, also separate anything you will need before delivery.

How far ahead should I request an Essex moving quote?

Contact us once you know the likely dates and addresses. If a closing or shop collection time is still uncertain, say so. We can discuss availability and what needs to be confirmed before the move is scheduled.
